AHEC Meeting
July 19, 2012
19:30 Crafts Lounge
(back to list)
- Orientation planning
- Dessert Night
- Monday September 3rd
- GSC OC said that dessert night needs to have a social component
- GSC won't fund food only events, so the orientation committee proposed adding cultural trivia to the event
- Cultural committee could host a trivia event to run during dessert night (say, during the last half of the year)
- Another possibility is to hold a dessert review contest in coordination with the 3 am newsletter
- Chidube suggested having questions that required people to walk around and talk to other people to find out things about other people
- The times for the event could be split: 8 pm to 9 pm for dessert, 9 pm to 10 pm for trivia
- Speed Friending
- This will either be before the first coffee hour or some other time as its own event
- Morgan reserved the Hulsizer room for Monday August 27th just in case
- Ikea Trip
- Sunday August 26th
- Ashdown is splitting the cost with Edgerton
- Casino Night
- We need to figure out when this will be and who is organizing it
- Friendsie Frenzy
- Eva attended this event and gave us a summary about how it went
- GSC AC's speed friending event hosted last weekend at the Thirsty Ear
- Fun games that encouraged meeting new people and remembering their names
- Tower building
- Clock game
- Musical chairs-like game
- Around 30 people attended
- It was about 2 hours long
- The orientation committee is planning a speed friending event, so this information was useful for them
- Olympics Themed Events
- Possible opening ceremony event
- We had flags for the world cup, but they were fire hazards
- We can get fire resistant flags for the Olympics if we want to
- Andy will talk to the Thirsty Ear to see what they are planning
- Someone can put up a gold medal chart to track how all the nations of Ashdown residents are doing
- Recap of previous events
- Fourth of July
- Thanks to all the volunteers for doing so much work. They were there from 7 am to 4:30 pm
- Eva suggested that maybe the Hulsizer room should be closed next time so there is less to clean
- Charles River community service event
- He, our community service chair, organized this event, and it went well
- 10 Ashdown residents came out for an afternoon of canoeing and removing water chestnuts
- Andy will find out if there were any pictures from the event
- Newsletter
- The most recent newsletter introduced a few new things including restaurant reviews, puzzles, and the house kids corner
- Sakul got a lot of positive feedback from people that read it
- Sakul should publicize that people won the prizes
- GSC GCM meeting update
- The GCM has a new component to the meeting: small group brainstorming
- This meeting focused on the previous transportation task force
- They proposed multiple bus routes that will better serve more grad students than the easy ride
- Matt went on behalf of Ashdown, thanks Matt!
- GSC AC meeting update
- The Friendsie Frenzy event was a success, there will be 3 more later in the year
- MIT - Harvard party
- We can open up our Halloween party to Harvard students as well
- ServSafe training
- Andy is now certified to be a food handler in the state of Massachusetts
- He thought the training did a good job to stress what is important in kitchen use, but it was missing a few things
