Event Description:
For several years, Ashdown House has commemorated Independence Day by hosting a barbeque on July 4th. At this event, we grill burgers (including veggie burgers), hot dogs, and chicken in our BBQ pits, and also provide fruit, vegetables, and (non-alcoholic) beverages. This event has proved quite popular among the MIT graduate community, with attendance typically approaching 500 people.

Ashdown looks to keep this tradition alive this year with a BBQ on July 4th. This will be our first BBQ at our new location in the Northwest community, and as such we will be shifting our focus slightly. Whereas this event has traditionally been held in the late afternoon, this year we would like to hold this event in the early afternoon (12-3 pm). This BBQ has long served as a focal point for MIT's festivities on July 4th, and we hope to maintain that energy. However, we would also like to frame it as a fun and convenient starting point for grad students as they venture around Boston/Cambridge to celebrate.

Given our proximity to much of the graduate student body, we expect attendance to hold steady or even increase this year, and our budget reflects these considerations. Please note that Ashdown will be contributing $500 of the proposed budget. We feel this BBQ will be of great interest to all MIT graduate students, and as such plan to advertise extensively using flyers throughout campus, posters in the graduate dorms, and a large advertisement in Lobby 7. As always, admission is free.
