Title: Ashdown Spring Exam Study Break Event Date: May 18, 2010, 9-10:30p Event Location: Ashdown House, Hulsizer Room Projected Attendance: 150 Prior Attendance: Will alcohol be served? No Will GSC funds be used to purchase alcohol? No Event Description: Based on feedback from other residence halls and a breakfast event we did in the fall, it has become clear (if it wasn't already) that graduate students appreciate breaks from the end-of-semester rush during exam week. While graduate students may not have many finals, there is usually a major uptick in work around this time. The purpose of the Ashdown Spring Exam Study Break is to give graduate students a reprieve from their studying and research through fun, food, and fellowship. We will have a variety of substantial food and snacks available, such as pizza, subs, and cookies. We will also be playing funny videos and Web clips using the Hulsizer Room projector, setting a lighthearted tone and encouraging attendees to laugh and have fun instead of stress about work. The event is located at Ashdown rather than on campus, encouraging a laid-back atmosphere. It's planned for Tuesday night in an attempt to avoid conflicts with other "study break"-like events, such as S-P and Ashdown coffee hours. The event budget reflects the expected costs of providing food for 100+ graduate students (~$5/person), based on experience with similar events (such as the Super Bowl party). The event will be advertised to, and will be free to, all graduate students. Expenses: Pizza (30 total) $325 Party subs (20 feet, serves 80-120) $200 Snacks (cookies, chips, etc.) $125 Soda/drinks and utensils $50 Revenues / Alternative Funding: Ashdown House Contribution $100 Total Requested [from GSC]: $600
