Title: Ashdown Cultural Dinner Event Date: November 16, 2009 Event Location: Ashdown House, Hulsizer Room Projected Attendance: 100 Prior Attendance: 90 Will alcohol be served? No Will GSC funds be used to purchase alcohol? No Event Description: Based on the success of - and positive feedback from - the two Cultural Dinners Ashdown hosted this summer, we would like to extend the program to a third dinner this fall. Each dinner seeks to bring a unique cultural experience to MIT graduate students through a dinner and presentation inspired by a specific culture. The two dinners this summer were a Greek dinner in June, featuring a history presentation and dance from the MIT Hellenic Students' Association, and an Indian dinner in August, featuring a video on Indian culture and a classical vocal music presentation. Our third dinner will follow this template, with a quality dinner and entertainment program designed to present a particular culture in a fun and unique way. The theme of the proposed dinner has not been set - we have been successful in the past polling residents for an appropriate theme before event planning formally begins. Due to the nature of the program and the food expenses involved, we will be setting a cap on the number of attendees - likely 100, based on past dinners. However, the event is free, and will be open and publicized to the entire MIT graduate community. The budget reflects our past experience on what amount is necessary to provide 100 attendees with takeout food of sufficient quality - and quantity - from an appropriately-themed restaurant. Expenses: Takeout food items from appropriately-themed restaurant $900 Drinks, paper products $50 Decorations $50 Publicity (11x17 posters) $100 Revenues / Alternative Funding: Ashdown House Contribution $550 Total Requested [from GSC]: $550
